Aretine ceramics

The term ‘Aretine ceramics’ (sometimes called ‘coral-red pottery’ due to the colour of the surface) indicates a particular type of vase (the terra sigillata made in various parts of the ancient world) produced in Arezzo between the 1st century B.C. and the 1st century A.D.

The characteristics of Aretine ceramics were its glossy finish (Glanztonfilm), the extremely compact clay that was used - of very high quality and purity - and the thin walls of the vases.
